Customer reviews
We had a fantastic experience with Brio Solar. Chris H. was our Consultant and he was very professional and thorough with explaining the company, system and installation.. I also really appreciate the way they have followed up with us during the process. I will recommend Brio to all of my friends and family!! Thanks Brio Solar!! Monica & Dr. Micheal Kandrac
We have gotten solar panels with Brio. Like other reviewers, I feel they provide a good product but their customer service is lacking. We got a new roof also, and were able to finance the whole package, and will hopefully not have any trouble getting a tax credit for going solar at next tax season. But their lack of responsiveness was really terrible; the farther along we got the worse it was. It took me 2 days of being in voicemail hell, working my way gradually from caller #10 to caller #1, then having the call disconnected, and this happening repeatedly; to watching a YouTube video to try to figure it out myself, to having an AT&T person who happened by help me out, to figure out how to turn on the solar panels. This was after a long series of steps, each requiring an inspection afterwards, which took several days or weeks to occur. (Of course it’s good that they inspected but it was pretty long and drawn-out.) But we finally have solar power, I hope. I think there are probably better providers around.
Brio Energy sends sales people to the door promising that your electric bill will be the same of less than you’re currently paying. They also tell you that you get tax incentives and that when you put those tax incentives towards the solar loan, it will reduce your payments after the first 18 months. Well, I am 18 months in and the solar loan payment plus the electric bill is double what I was paying with Duke. My bill never decreased because we didn’t owe enough in taxes to receive the full incentive in the last two tax years. Not only that, but since they installed it, we’ve been getting errors that have required us to reboot the system every few weeks basically rendering it useless for periods of time and causing our electric bill to be even higher than it should be. It has NEVER worked properly. And, now they are telling me that the parts are covered by warranty, but they’re going to charge for labor. This company gets worse every interaction I have with them.
Don’t do it. It sounds great. But here we are a year later and our panels have not reduced our Duke bills at all. I’ve requested someone to come confirm they are working at all; I’ve requested this many times. Shouldn’t there be some kind of quality control process in place that ensures a customer of a functioning product? An astonishing waste of money so far as we continue to pay for both panels and electricity. Edit: someone answered this review promptly. That gives me hope. I’m looking forward to hearing from someone; perhaps we can get it sorted out.
I would give zero stars if Google would allow it. My husband and I were talked into going with solar energy because we wouldn’t have a power bill once connected (only a $3 + change to stay connected to the power source [Duke]). The panels were installed quickly, by an outsourced company might I add, but it took MONTHS to have the net meter installed. I had been told by Brio that Duke took a lot of time getting the meter installed but it ended up being on Brio’s end then entire time. Duke hadn’t received our paperwork from Brio at all and I kept receiving emails about missing information (information I wasn’t told that I needed to provide). We went two months paying over $200 for the solar panels PLUS a full electric bill that was also just as much. We still have an electric bill, it’s anywhere from $80-$120 a month. Brio is a complete rip-off! I do not recommend this company. Buyer beware, you’re also NOT guaranteed a rebate from Duke. It’s an application that you must submit separately and not everyone is accepted.
I am evolving my past review, improving my rating from 2-4 starts. This is because in the past 2 months I have received great customer service and prompt solutions to our problems. Our solar is now up and running with great technicians. Way to go Brio! Before you go with Brio…. DON’T! I’ve been very disappointed with the customer service at Brio and wish I had heeded the reviews of other before signing on. Communication with the brio team has been difficult and the only consistency is inconsistent information. We have been paying both electric bills and loan payments for 3 months while waiting for Brio to get our panels ready to be turned on. At present, the solar panels are ready to go and Brio won’t call me back to turn them on.
I was contemplating installing solar panels and one day Brio Energy showed up. I normally don’t allow any time for uninvited salesmen, but I decided to listen. We scheduled an appointment, which I had to cancel due to my vehicle being broke down in another city and I was having to have it towed home. We rescheduled and conducted the meeting. Joshua I believe was his name, went over all the details, and I agreed with him and decided to buy the panels. Everything else was a breeze! All documents were signed online, everything was scheduled online, and all I had to do was be there for the installation and inspection. This will be a long term pay back, but I can say that my last months Duke Energy bill was $30.00. Now if my panels were paid for that would be great! Even with the payment it was 1/2 than what it was in the timeframe a year ago. I wish I could go off grid, maybe one day!
I have had issues with Brio setting up my solar panels to be fully functional since July of 2020. While, after my last review, Brio did step up my panels, finally, and get them turned on; however, I’ve now been almost three months into them working only to not having them generate any energy at all. I’m talking ZERO energy generated. I’ve also had Duke Energy come out to make sure there is nothing wrong, and they could not find one problem on their end. So, Brio, PLEASE do right by this customer that you’ve now strung along for almost a year, is currently paying both a high energy bill AND the solar panel loan, and just wants to produce clean energy.
Please whatever you do, do NOT go with this company. I’ve had a solar system from them on my house for almost two years now. They said the system was inspected when it wasn’t. My Duke bills have still been between $180-$230 a month on top of my solar loan. When I’ve asked the company to get this all squared away and reimburse me. They have sent people who “get it to work” for a month and then the system fails all over again. Now it’s been over 8 months and I can never get through to them in the phone and have found no way to get this resolved once and for all. The last communication I had with them. They said they were sending me a check to pay me back for my Duke bills and solar loans. But, I never got a check and have never heard from them since. Please whatever you do, don’t allow this fake company to rob you like they have robbed me.
It has been a excellent experience thus far with Brio. The communication has been exceptional with all departments. The project is moving at a much faster pace than expected, we have our instillation date set for for 2 1/2 weeks after signing our paperwork. Would like to give additional recognition to Vincent and Cameron who came and re-insulated our attic, they were personable, professional and very accommodating.
Brio Energy was very informative and helpful throughout the whole process. We were not even sure that we had the ability to go solar within our budget until we spoke with Brio. Now we are proud owners of sustainable, green energy! They were also incredibly clean and courteous, as they were working on our system during the pandemic. We could not be happier with our experience. Special shout out to all of the workers that had to endure my constant questioning :)

Our Recommendation
Brio Energy Installers, now known as Brighter Solar Energy1, has been in the solar installation business since 2015. With a significant presence in North Carolina, they have been a part of the renewable energy conversation for quite some time. But how do they fare when it comes to customer satisfaction and service quality? Let’s delve into the details.
Customer Reviews
Customer reviews are a crucial aspect of evaluating any service provider. For Brio Energy Installers, the feedback is mixed. They have an average rating of 2.30 from 51 reviews and 3.0 from 11 reviews. While some customers praise the company for their attention to detail and responsiveness, others express dissatisfaction with the after-sales support and installation process.
Positive reviews highlight the company’s efficient installation process and the savings achieved. One customer from Durham, North Carolina, commended the installers for their speed and professionalism. Another customer appreciated the company’s communication throughout the process.
However, negative reviews raise concerns about the company’s follow-through and customer support. Some customers in North Carolina reported issues with the setup and claimed that their power bills did not change as promised. Others mentioned problems with the installation and a lack of response from the company.
Service Quality
In terms of service quality, Brio Energy Installers received mixed scores. They scored relatively well in the sales process and price as quoted, with ratings of 3.5. However, they scored lower in terms of schedule adherence (2.5) and after-sales support (2.6). These scores suggest that while the company may offer competitive pricing and a good sales process, they may need to improve their scheduling and customer support.

Therefore, if you’re considering Brio Energy Installers for your solar installation in North Carolina, it’s essential to weigh these factors. It may be beneficial to seek additional information, compare with other providers, and make an informed decision based on your specific needs and expectations.
